Field trip for the lecture “Energietechnik”
This year’s field trip as part of the “Energietechnik” lecture took place from June 23 to 25, 2025. On the first day, participants first visited the Voestalpine steel plant in Linz as well as the power plant “Kraftwerk Linz-Mitte”, gaining fascinating insights into the processes of steel production and energy supply.
The journey then continued to Vienna, where the following day included visits to the Münzer biodiesel production facility and the BEST gasifier for the production of synthesis gas from biomass and residual materials. The second day concluded with a visit to the “Donaukraftwerk Freudenau”, where the group gained in-depth insights into electricity generation from hydropower in Austria.
On the final day, the program began with the pumped-storage power plant in Ranna, where the students gathered interesting impressions of the technology and its operation. The field trip concluded with a visit to the citizen-owned wind farm in Pfaffenhofen, where participants learned about the planning and construction of wind turbines, as well as the political challenges faced by wind farm operators.
