Workshop “Optimization of Sewage Sludge Combustion in Stationary Fluidized Beds” at EVT
On 3 November 2025, the Chair of Energy Process Engineering at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg hosted the closing workshop “Optimization of Sewage Sludge Combustion in Stationary Fluidized Beds”. The workshop focused on operational aspects, emission reduction — particularly N₂O measurements — flue gas cleaning, prediction and early detection of bed agglomeration, and methods for monitoring bed material; presentations were grounded in laboratory tests, full-scale measurements and industrial practice.
Researchers from FAU and RWTH participated alongside representatives from several industrial partners and thermal treatment operators (see participant list). The results presented provide concrete recommendations for operation, emission mitigation and ash quality improvement for phosphorus recovery. With this workshop, the BMWK-funded ProKläR-Mission project concludes successfully; the findings will feed directly into further developments (e.g., the envisaged follow-up project “KläR-vision”).
