Field trip for the lecture “Regenerative Energien”

Exkursion Regenerative Energien

The field trip on the topic of renewable energies took place from 5 to 7 November 2025. The first stop was the biomass cogeneration plant in Bad Mergentheim, which supplies the city’s district heating network. In the afternoon, the tour continued to Mannheim, where participants visited the wastewater treatment plant. The site also houses a pilot plant that produces methanol from sewage gas.

The following day, the trip continued to BASF in Ludwigshafen. During a site tour, participants gained insights into the world’s largest integrated chemical complex. Next on the agenda was the Rhine power plant Iffezheim, where the group experienced the impressive scale of Germany’s largest run-of-river power plant underneath the Rhine.

On the last day, the group visited Fraunhofer ISE in Freiburg. There, participants toured the laboratories where research is conducted on Power-to-X technologies. The excursion concluded with a visit to the Elektrizitätswerke Schönau, including a tour of a wind farm.
