The eleventh ABBY-Net Summer School took place from August 8 to 15, 2026, at the Saldenburg Youth Hostel in the Bavarian Forest. In addition to numerous lectures and workshops, the program included several exciting field trips, including visits to the photovoltaic and wind farm operated by the Pfaffenhofen citizens’ energy cooperative, the Todtenauer Moor, and the Pfaffenhofen wastewater treatment plant.

In interdisciplinary groups, students from Bavaria and Alberta explored questions related to resource management and the impact of conventional and renewable energy systems on natural ecosystems. They subsequently developed their own research proposals and approaches to practical challenges associated with energy development in Bavaria and Alberta.

The ABBY-Net Summer School takes place annually, alternating between Alberta and Bavaria. It brings together students and researchers from participating universities in Canada and Germany to develop interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable energy systems and ecosystems.
