With three contributions, EVT was once again represented at the “9th Doctoral Colloquium BIOENERGY AND BIOBASED PRODUCTS” in Leipzig from 23 to 24 September 2026.

In her presentation titled “Heatpipe-cooled catalytic methanation as a pathway for flexible biogas plant operation,” Susanna Ströhmberg discussed the planned scale-up of a heatpipe-cooled catalytic methanation reactor—as part of the BMWE’s H2BioMeth project—and its integration with SOEC electrolysis.

Constantin Heim’s poster, “Simulative Optimization of Power-to-Gas at Wastewater Treatment Plants,” focused on the integration of methanation technology into the “wastewater treatment plant energy system.” Another application of heat pipes was highlighted by Niklas Hehmke in his poster “Additively Manufactured Sodium Heat Pipes for High-Temperature Thermoelectric Cogeneration in Pellet Boilers.” Of particular interest here is the additive manufacturing approach, which opens up new possibilities for geometric design.

Besides the exchange with other doctoral researchers, the various laboratory tours at DBFZ also contributed to a successful and informative conference. The tours provided insights into different research areas and experimental facilities—ranging from biogas research and methanation to the processing and upgrading of biogenic gases.
