On May 28, 2026, the Chair of Energy Process Engineering at FAU, in collaboration with the “Biogas ist Zukunft – schon heute 2.0” campaign, published the meta-study
“Hochflexible Biogas-Speicherkraftwerke –
Volkswirtschaftliche und ökologische Bewertung biogasbasierter Speicherkraftwerke im künftigen Energiesystem”
Englisch translation:
“Highly Flexible Biogas Storage Power Plants – An Economic and Environmental Assessment of Biogas-Based Storage Power Plants in the Future Energy System”
The study analyzes the economic costs and benefits of making existing biogas plants more flexible and recommends a significant increase in the tender volume for biomass plants for the planned amendment to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) in 2027.
